The BDIH, the Association of Industrial Companies and Trading Firms for pharmaceuticals, healthcare products, food supplements and personal hygiene products, is a non-profit association of manufacturers and distributors which was founded in 1951 and is based in Mannheim in Germany. The BDIH is organised within the European Federation of Associations of Health Product Manufacturers (EHPM), and is also a member of the German Federation for Food Law and Food Science (BLL).
The BDIH has been working with European natural cosmetics federations and certification companies for six years in the area of natural cosmetics. Working together, harmonisation of the different national standards for natural cosmetics and organic cosmetics was achieved for the first time in November 2008. The BDIH has therefore ensured that its standard will continue to form the basis for an international identifying seal for manufacturers and consumers in the future. You will find more details about this under NEWS and at www.cosmos-standard.org.
As well as overseeing the natural cosmetics standard, the BDIH also advises its members on all legal issues relating to the manufacturing and marketing of cosmetic products, foodstuffs (in particular food supplements, dietetic foods), medical products and over-the-counter medications. The key tools here are the working groups which were established by the BDIH and also team up with other associations, authorities and experts to deal with current issues in close collaboration with the member companies. The BDIH currently has over 500 member companies. You will find more detailed information on the BDIH website www.bdih.de.
